Simonton 5500 Series

Simonton was ranked #1 in quality in the 2007 Brand Use Study sponsored by Buildermagazine and has won two consecutive Best In Class Awards for being ranked “Overall Top Rated Vinyl Window Brand” in unaided industry studies.

Simonton 5500.

Simonton was founded in 1946. Today, they are widely considered to be America’s largest vinyl replacement window manufacturer.

Compare that to the 6 years or less that some other manufacturers have been in business. Several other local manufacturers we know of have been repeatedly bankrupt (under previous names) or their parent company has.

The 5500 is a double hung Click here to find out the Difference Between a Single Hung and a Double Hung. You can also get fixed windows, crank out casement windows and special shape windows.

STIMULUS TAX CREDIT QUALIFICATION - Just choose the argon gas option in order for these vinyl windows to qualify. Click here for details of the 2010 Stimulus Tax Credit.

GLASS TYPE - To meet Texas energy code requirements, Low E glass is used. The older Cardinal 270 glass comes standard and satisfies the basic Texas requirements but we ordinarily upgrade to Cardinal 366 for even higher performance. It is a third Generation Low E glass from the company who supplies virtually all of the glass for Andersen, Pella and Marvin wood window companies.

GLASS THICKNESS - Single strength glass is standard but we ordinarily upgrade to “Double Strength” inside and outside with a 5/8” airspace for overall thickness of 7/8”. Click here to learn the details and why Double Strength is so important.

FRAME COLORS - White, tan or driftwood exterior colors. Two optional woodgrain interior laminate colors (Honey Oak and Amber Oak) are available, but the exterior must be white if woodgrain interior laminates are used. Even the grids or grilles inside the airspace that create a divided pane look are available with woodgrain interiors and a white exterior.

Unlike with most replacement windows, the Simonton 5500 has optional lock colors available at additional cost. Besides the colors that match the window frame, these include Antique Brass, Polished Brass, Brushed Nickel and Oil Rubbed Bronze.

FRAME AND SASHES - 75/1000’s of an inch thick and Fusion Welded; that’s over 15% thicker than the vinyl walls on many vinyl windows on the market. Numerous hollow chambers inside the vinyl framework add significant structural strength to this window. Click here to see our own video details on Fusion Welded frames and sashes.

FRAME THICKNESS - 3 ¼ inches. (That’s important because vinyl is extremely energy efficient but not very strong. For that reason, you need a lot of it. Many vinyl windows are only about 2 ¾ inches thick and as a result, they just don’t have the strength of this window.)

GLASS SPACER SYSTEM - The Intercept metal spacer system comes standard but we ordinarily upgrade to the non metal Superspacer Enviroseal NXT. Click here for our own video on the Types of Spacer Systems.

LIFTING SYSTEM OR “BALANCES” - Simonton’s Coiled stainless steel “constant force” balance is ¾” wide instead of ½” like most other window manufacturers. Click here to see our own short video on the Constant Force Balance. Click here to go a Constant Force manufacturers webpage

1) No divided panes
2) Flat grilles inside the airspace (5/8” wide).
